SALARY:                 Up to £35,000 p.a. depending on experience

HOURS:                  Full Time (35 hours per week)

TERMS:                   Permanent Position, 25 days leave per year + public holidays

REPORTS TO:        Board of Trustees

LOCATION:            Stockton on Tees


BECON was established in 2001 and has enjoyed a long and fruitful history working with and supporting BME communities and the BME voluntary sector in the North East of England. The Board of Trustees have recently undertaken an in-depth review of the organisation’s Vision and Mission and prepared a bold and ambitious strategy for the organisation as it moves into a new phase of service delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking leader with experience in Charity management.

The key aspects of the role are to:

  • Provide leadership across all the services provided by BECON and, in particular, the delivery of the organisation’s strategic plans.
  • Represent and promote the organisation to stakeholders, service-users, partners and the wider public.
  • Ensure BECON’s services are delivered to the highest standards of excellence and to the fullest positive impact.
  • To develop fundraising and other innovative income streams within the Vision, Mission and Strategy of the Charity.

Based in Stockton on Tees, the post holder will benefit from the support of an engaged Board of Trustees, committed staff and volunteers and a clear vision shaping BECON’s future.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience as a senior manager or CEO in a charitable or voluntary organisation.
  • Some experience of the BME Voluntary & Community Sector.
  • Experience of delivering projects and services within budgetary constraints.
  • An ability to develop positive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of financial management and fundraising.
  • A commitment to the values and ongoing development of the BECON organisation.

BECON is a small but ambitious charity based in Stockton on Tees which is looking for new Trustees to join the Board. We have recently embarked upon a new and impactful Strategic Plan to take the organisation up to April 2020, with national potential to address some of the most significant challenges facing the BME community sector, Refugees & Asylum Seekers and those suffering social and economic exclusion.

We are looking to refresh our Trustee group with equally ambitious individuals who have experience of working with charities or as a school governor and who may have experience in undertaking charity fundraising. Some form of BME experience would be advantageous as would commercial insight and / or understanding of business principles and financial reporting.

Trustee meetings are usually held every two months at our Stockton office.

The position is voluntary, but all reasonable expenses will be paid.

Project Officer – Heritage Lottery Fund New Beginnings Project

SCP 20 £14961 pro-rata at 30 hours per week fixed term one year

About the Project
The New Beginnings Project is an oral history project supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The New Beginnings Project will record the migration of South Asian elders who came to build a new life in Stockton-on-Tees. Working in partnership with Stockton Riverside College and Stockton Borough Council the Project Officer will recruit, train and support volunteers to record the experiences of South Asian elders in their migration to Stockton on Tees.

The Post
The post holder will:

  • lead on the development, coordination, implementation and delivery of the New Beginnings Project
  • work in partnership with partners to ensure a co-ordinated approach to developing the New Beginnings Project
  • establish a core steering group comprising of partners and participants
  • record, monitor and evaluate progress in line with the aims and outcomes of the New beginning Project
  • ensure the aims and objectives of the New Beginning Project are carried out
