£500,000 Ofcom Community Radio Fund Funding area: UK wide Total Fund Value: £ 500,000 Status: Open for applications Start date: 01/09/2005 Next Application Deadline: 02/12/2008 Outline The Ofcom Community Radio Fund has been established to help fund the core costs of running a community radio station. The fund is targeted at not-for-profit radio stations that have a social purpose and work with their community in running the service. The fund is administered by Ofcom (The Office of Communications) on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Grant Value - notes The Total Fund Value represents the maximum amount available per annum for the Fund. DCMS sometimes uses part of the fund for other community media projects. There is no maximum grant value, however, Ofcom asks applicants to take note of previous grant awards for an indication of realistic award figures (See the Previously Awarded Funds section of this page). Community Cash Awards Up to £5000 Ongoing project - no closing date Community Cash Awards are grants of up to £5,000 to help young people set up a project that will benefit their community. You just have to come up with an idea for a project that will improve life in a local community in the UK. Maybe a new basketball court, a music studio, a youth club, sex education workshops in schools, a youth advisory board, even a local magazine. Who can apply? Anyone who is • aged 14-16 and is in school, but struggling • aged 16-25, unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week. Projects must: • be run and managed by people between the ages of 14 and 25 • clearly benefit the local community • benefit the people running the project; and • be a new or developing project. The following are not eligible: • Formal groups or organisations • Expeditions or overseas travel • Fundraising activities for charity • Trips and outings, unless they have educational value How much is the grant? • Funding of up to £1,000 is available for 14-16 year olds • Funding of up to £5,000 is available for those aged 16-25 For more information please visit the Prince’s Trust website . Community Development Foundation Grass Roots Grants NOW AVAILABLE On 4 September, a £130 million Grassroots Grants scheme, funded by the Office of the Third Sector and administered by the Community Development Foundation (CDF), opened for business. The scheme offers grants of between £250 and £5,000 to small local voluntary and community groups, with money being distributed directly through local funders appointed by the CDF. It is a three-year scheme to March 2011. The Community Foundation will deliver small grants programmes in Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, and Gateshead. BME groups operating within Northumberland and Tyne and Wear will receive more information on this grant through the post.
