North East Working Together

To Provide Real Help for People and Businesses

Helping people and businesses to access the range of support that’s now available to them in the region is vital at this time.

That’s why One North East, Job Centre Plus, Learning and Skills Council and Business Link North East are working together to ensure that firms and individuals understand who to talk to about getting support and funding.

These key agencies have joined forces to get a clear message of support out across the region and will be giving regular updates on new products and services.

LSC North East

Research into the feasibility of Community Learning Advocates in the VCS

A key aim for the Learning and Skills Council North East is to enable adults who are most excluded from the labour market to progress into learning and employment. To enable the LSC to achieve this, the LSC investigate the need for Community Learning Advocates, supported by a Community Learning Fund, in the region. The LSC envisage these advocates could be supplied by the Voluntary and Community Sector, who could promote and arrange informal learning activity for their clients that could serve as a first step in progression into further learning or employment.

The LSC would like to ask for your support and involvement in this research. The LSC have commissioned the Wood Holmes Group, an independent research and strategy consultancy based in Newcastle, to evidence the feasibility of LSC funding and supporting such a scheme. Through consultation with Voluntary and Community Sector organisations in the region the LSC want to understand:

  • What similar activity is currently happening in the region
  • The need for a Community Learning Fund, or any specific gaps in current activity
  • Whether VCS organisations feel capable and willing to participate in delivery of CLAs
  • How the fund and delivery of the scheme should be structured in order for it to work.
